Congress president Rahul Gandhi filed his second nomination for the Lok Sabha seat of Amethi. Amethi in Uttar Pradesh is a Gandhi stronghold and he has represented for the last 14 years.
This decision came in after he filed his first nomination from Wayanad in Kerala and there was heavy criticism from the ruling party. Before filing the nomination, Rahul Gandhi did a 3 km road show from Munshiganj-Darpipur to the administrative headquarters of Amethi, Gauriganj.
His sister and the party’s eastern UP in-charge Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and his mother, Rae Bareli Lok Sabha lawmaker Sonia Gandhi accompanied him for the filing. Priyanka Gandhi’s husband Robert Vadra was also present at the filing his nomination.

Rahul Gandhi will face stiff competition in BJP leader and Union Textile Minister Smriti Irani and are set to go face to face for the second time in a row. She is likely to file her nomination from Amethi this week.
The Congress president’s decision to contest from two seats has met with heavy backlash as BJP has made statements that he is unsure about Amethi and hence keeping a plan B. Amethi goes to polls on May 6 in the fifth phase of elections.
