Won’t contest Lok Sabha polls: Sumitra Mahajan on BJP’s delay in naming candidate from Indore

Date:

Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahan said on Friday that she will not contest the upcoming the general elections from Indore.

Questioning the delay over the announcement, she wrote a letter saying, “I am moving myself out of the equation to ease the confusion among the BJP leader over selection of candidate from Indore. They can choose whoever they want.”

The eight-time MP from Indore says that she had held discussions with senior party leaders over the Indore ticket and left the final decision to them.

“The party has not declared its candidate from Indore. Why is this state of indecision? It is possible that the party is hesitating to take a decision,” she added in her letter.

She also said that she expects that the party would take a decision soon so that the state of confusions gets over and everyone can work in coming days.

The BJP has kept Indore out of the first two lists it has released. The saffron party has also not fielded many of its veteran leaders, including L K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, in the Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP was believed to be considering other names, including Indore Mayor and MLA Malini Gaud, BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, among others from the parliamentary constituency.

Indore will go to poll in the last phase of voting on May 19. The results for all Lok Sabha constituencies will be declared on May 23.
