Gurugram: Class 12 student fakes his own kidnapping, demands Rs 3 cr

Date:

An 18-year old student in Gurugram faked his own kidnapping as he wanted to purchase a Santro car. He tried to make up a story and allegedly paid a ragpicker an amount of Rs 500 to make a ransom call to his mother where the amount was quoted as Rs 3 crores.

He then walked into a police station where he said he was intoxicated and was questioned but couldn’t tie the loose ends of his story. He was arrested two days later on charges of extortion.

Police stated that the student was insistent on buying the Santro car and pursued his mother to come to the showroom with him. But his mother refused to purchase it as she didn’t have the funds. This lead him to plan his own kidnapping as he was desperate for money.

The incident took on March 29 when the student, Sandeep told his mother he was off for cricket practice but went to Chintpurni temple in Sector 5 instead. Subash Boken, spokesperson, city police, said the student hitched a ride in an autorickshaw to Dharuhera from the temple.

“After roaming around for some time, he went to a garbage dump and paid ₹500 to a ragpicker to make a ransom call with his own phone to his mother,” Boken said.

Boken also added that Sandeep knew that his mother did not have enough money to pay the huge ransom and would end up taking the help of relatives to pay a bit of the amount and then purchase the car.

Later in the evening, while the police teams were conducting raids, Sandeep allegedly walked into the traffic police post at Manesar. As per the investigation he denied to have any memory of the kidnapping which lead to suspicion. While interrogation, he confessed and said that he planned the kidnapping to purchase a car.
