Here is a list of powerful women candidates to watch out for the Elections 2019

1. Urmila Matondkar

In a surprize move, actor Urmila Matondkar joined hands with Congress recently. The party has decided to field her from Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency a few days after she joined the party. She said in a press briefing regarding her transition to elections,”I have more important issues to fight for. I am here to stay and play a longer innings,” she said. She also mentions that the decision came about as she likes the ideologies of Congress versus Modi’s government.

Contesting her first elections and she being closely associated with Mumbai, she has a fair chance at getting votes due to her image and persona.

 

2. Priya Dutt 

Congress candidate, Priya Dutt earlier had announced that she wouldn’t contest elections in this year but was named a candidate from Mumbai North-Central recently. She is the daughter of the late actor-politician Sunil Dutt and made her debut in elections in 2005 and retained it in 2009.

3. Supriya Shrinate 

Supriya Shrinate, a television anchor has quit her primary job for a career as a politician. The Congress party is pitching veteran journalist to pull the party through in a crucial eastern Uttar Pradesh seat, where Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is the general secretary in-charge. The former executive editor of ET Now will be contest from Maharajganj Lok Sabha seat.

4. Smriti Irani 

Significantly, Smriti will fight with Rahul as BJP candidate in Amethi this time. Earlier, in the 2014 electoral battle, Smriti and Rahul have faced Amna, in which the BJP had to face defeat.

 

5. Hema Malini 

The actor-turned-politician, Hema Malini will be re-contesting from the Mathura Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh again this LS polls. She was successful in getting elected in 2014 from the same seat. She is a staunch supporter of BJP’s ideology and believes that it would be dangerous is PM Modi is not re-elected this year.

“Of course I am also a ‘chowkidarni’. Our prime minister is a ‘chowkidar’ and we all are assisting him. He is taking care that there is no corruption in the country and that’s why the Opposition is clueless and desperate,” she said.

 

6. Jaya Prada

A decade ago actress Jaya Prada first won elections from Rampur, she has returned to the Lok Sabha constituency. She is pitted against Samajwadi Party’s leader Azam Khan to challenge him in UP. She mentioned when she addressed the media that she was happy to join the party work with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
