PM Modi interview: No one can question my patriotism, my life speaks for itself

Date:

With less than two weeks for the Lok Sabha elections, PM Narendra Modi on Friday spoke to NewsMobile partner Republic Media Network’s Editor-In-Chief Arnab Goswami in an exclusive interview

Modi spoke in-depth on several issues concerning the nation including the politics revolving around the polls.

Talking about elections, PM Modi said “Firstly, the voter is always the central point of elections and the voter should always be the central focus of elections because elections are about fulfilling hopes and aspirations of voters. Political parties need to go to the voters and then people elect a government.

In our country, a wrong thing has happened where we are making the Prime Minister the central focus of elections. For the nation’s bright future and for a healthy democracy, in elections, the greatest priority, the centre point should be the citizen,”

When the interviewer told Modi that announcement of ‘Mission Shakti’ was seen as a poll gimmick by the Opposition. To this, the PM replied, “People make mistakes” taking a dig at the Opposition. He further added,” Space missions have to be planned by taking the global community into confidence. Time is allotted to nations, this doesn’t see elections or Model Code of Conduct…The Opposition lacks elementary knowledge regarding these missions.”

PM also talked about the Pulwama attack, and IAF’s anti-terror strike, he said that hatred for Modi by the Opposition has extended to the hatred for the nation.

He added “No one can question my patriotism. My life speaks for itself. The country should be scared because the selfish opposition’s thoughts and actions are detrimental for the nation’s future. Everyone was aware of how big the attack was, but you should question the Opposition regarding such personal attacks. If they are sure of what they are blaming us for, they can go ahead with this as their agenda for the polls”.

PM also talked about Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan and explained “We don’t have anything against the citizens of Pakistan. We are fighting terrorism”.

Talking about his campaign he said “Chowkidar doesn’t only mean cap, whistle or stick. Chowkidar is a spirit”. “I’ve been the longest serving Chief Minister of Gujarat. Yes, I’m a chaiwala and my past was never spoken about during my tenure as chief minister. But when I was elected as the Prime Minister, they started raising these issues and I proudly said that I was a chaiwala. As far as Chowkidar is concerned, it is a word I used for myself during 2011-2012 poll campaign too. Mahatma Gandhi also during his time had qualities of being a Chowkidar, not literally but in the spirit to ensure safety and security of the country.” he added.

On a parting note, PM Modi appealed to the citizens of the country to cast their votes in the Lok Sabha Elections 2019.
