In a scathing attack on the ruling BJP and the Congress, BSP supremo Mayawati on Wednesday hit out at both the parties for their “garibi hatato” promise and called it a bluff.
She also said that the two parties are both birds of the same feather in betraying the interests of the poor, labourers, and farmers.
“Ruling BJP calling Congress slogan of Garibi Hatao 2.0 as a bluff is true. But is poll bluff & reneging of poll promises the sole domain of the BJP? In fact, BJP & Congress party are both birds of the same feather in betraying the interests of the poor, labourers, farmers & others,” she said in a tweet.

Mayawati’s remark came days after the Congress announced its minimum income guarantee “NYAY” (Nyuntam Aay Yojana) for the 20 % poorest in the country. Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday announced to give Rs 72,000 per annum to 25 crore poor families of the country.
Both the local satraps, the SP and the BSP, had ruled out the grand old party from their alliance in Uttar Pradesh in the run-up to the coming Lok Sabha elections. In fact, the BSP chief had earlier announced that the party will not forge any alliance with the Congress across the country in fighting the 2019 elections.
The BSP-SP-RLD are in alliance in the electorally crucial state of UP, which sends 80 parliamentarians to the lower house of the parliament. The BSP is contesting on 38 seats, while the SP will fight on 37 seats. Ajit Singh-led RLD will contest on three seats.
The 17th Lok Sabha polls will begin from April 11 and end on May 19. While the result will be announced on May 23.
