Congress leader Milind Deora on Monday was appointed the new Mumbai Congress chief as he replaced Sanjay Nirupam, ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2019.
On Monday, Congress party released a list of 26 candidates in Maharashtra and West Bengal. Nirupam has been given a ticket from Mumbai North-west to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

“I thank former party President Sonia ji and Rahul ji who gave me this responsibility at such a crucial time. Mumbai is a city of diversity, we’ll take everyone together & present a positive agenda to Mumbaikars”, Deora said.

Sanjay Nirupam, on being given ticket from Mumbai North-West and Milind Deora being appointed Mumbai Congress chief welcomed the decision.

“I was doubtful if I would’ve been able to do justice, had I worked while also being Mumbai Congress chief. Congress Pres took intelligent decision and I welcome it”, Nirupam said.
“He is my friend and like my younger brother. I offer my greetings to him that he successfully shoulders responsibility given to him by Congress Pres, we’ill support him.”, he added.
Among the list of candidates, Intaj Ali Shah who is a former judge and ex-Chairman of Minority Commission in Bengal has been fielded from Krishanagar.
Sourav Prasad will be contesting from Bangaon and Mohammad Alam from barrackpur.
