The springtime is here and Lake Michigan in the US has turned into a frozen pit of ice shards. Just like out of a film, the surface of the lake has begun to thaw which is creating the ice shards. The lake’s water is completely frozen beneath.
As the water melts below the surface, it creates the shard look on the surface.
The lake is not safe for people to visit due to the formation of ice. The ice is deteriorating and falling apart.

The area has been affected by the Polar Vortex that has created sub-zero temperatures in some parts of the US.
After the storm, ice shelves formed over 56 percent of the lake’s surfacethis link opens in a new tab. The Coast Guard has issued warnings against people visiting and walking around as the weather has become unpredictable.
Warmer temperatures over the past two weeks have caused the unusual and beautiful ice shard formations.
