Irfan Ramzan Sheikh, a 14-year-old boy hailing from Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday was honoured with Shaurya Chakra by President Ram Nath Kovind for exhibiting an extraordinary show of bravery and maturity by preventing a terror attack on his house in October 2017.
On the night of October 16-17, 2017, three terrorists came to Irfan’s house whose father, Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh, is a political activist in the state. When Irfan heard some noise outside the house, he opened the door and found to his shock that three terrorists were standing in the verandah, armed with rifles and grenades. Sensing trouble, Irfan exhibited the highest degree of courage and got into fisticuffs, jostling and pushing the terrorists, risking his own life, to stop them from entering the house.
