The Mumbai Pune Expressway, governed by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), will be partially shut between March 12 to March 20.
This is being done to remove the loose rocks and the boulders adjacent to the hills on the way to prevent any unfortunate incident due to landslides in the monsoon period between July to September.
In order to make sure, the maintenance and repair work of the Khandala tunnel is not affected by the traffic flow, the officials will halt traffic movement every fifteen minutes starting from 10 AM to 3:30 PM in the afternoon.
During these 15-minute intervals, all traffic on both lanes will be halted to accommodate the work. The schedule is as follows:
Block 1: 10-10.15am
Block 2: 11-11.15am
Block 3: 12-12.15pm
Block 4: 2-2.15pm
Block 5: 3-3.15pm
The Highway Security Unit has already put up a notice at the Khalapur toll junction (Pali Phata) (for the Mumbai-Pune direction) and also the at Talegaon (for the Pune-Mumbai direction) toll junction. The Mumbai Pune Expressway has often witnessed fatal crashes, especially in the monsoons due to rockfall, a result of weathering and vertical cuts on the rocks.
