A Facebook post in the form of pictures and videos has been making rounds which claim that “Due to a shortage of men, Iceland will pay $5,000 per month to immigrants who marry Icelandic women.”
The viral claim which sneaked into Facebook in 2016 is still being widely shared on Social media.
On Fact Checking the claim, NewsMobile found that it is not true and Iceland is not paying money to men for marrying Iceland women.
While digging to verify the clam, we came across an article by Reykjavik Grapevine, a magazine based out of Iceland’s capital Reykjavík, which confirmed that government didn’t announce any kind of grant for immigrants who marry Icelanders, regardless of gender.
Moreover, they further clarified that as per the latest population data there are more men than women in Iceland. In Reykjavík, there are 1,007 men for every 1,000 women in.
Hence, don’t believe the hoax.
