Whatsapp for iPhone users gets face and biometric recognition

Date:

Whatsapp for iOS users has been updated to include biometric recognition after a long wait. The users will now be able to set their Whatsapp to lock or unlock with the help of face or fingerprint recognition.

The WhatsApp build version that carries this new update is available on version 2.19.20. The update has been in the pipeline since last year and been in the testing phase since.

This adds an extra layer of security to the app, for iPhone users. There is a probability for this new feature to be introduced for Android users in the near future as well.

To activate biometric or face recognition do the following:

Go to Whatsapp Settings > Account > Privacy > Click on Enable Screen lock

Once the screen lock is enabled, the app will have the user to choose either one of the methods – Face ID or Touch ID.

The options include enabling the biometrics immediately, one minute apart, post 15 minutes or an hour. You can choose the interval according to your convenience.

However, Whatsapp will allow the user to answer to messages and answer calls directly, without unlocking first with biometric recognition. The back up passcode option will be available in case there is a glitch or failure in authentication of the user based on Face or Touch ID.

There were lags earlier that seem to have been taken care of in this final version of the update.
