Lauding his government’s decision to construct Kartarpur Corridor, the prime minister said, “Through Kartarpur corridor, Sikh devotees will be able to make visa-free pilgrimage to Darbar Sahib in Narowal, Pakistan, on the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.”
“Kartarpur corridor project is an attempt to atone for the mistakes committed during India’s partition in August 1947. We had failed to ensure that the sacred site of Guru remains on our side of the border. This project is authentic proof of compensating that loss,” he added.
Talking about the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, wherein around 2,700 Sikhs were killed across India, after the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards Satwant Singh and Beant Singh, Prime Minister Modi said: “Our government will ensure that all the culprits are behind the bars and victims’ families get justice.”
