BJP West Bengal president Dilip Ghosh has sparked controversy after he said that Trinamool Congress chief and chief minister Mamata Banerjee is the best choice for the post of prime minister if it’s from West Bengal.
“Mamata Banerjee’s name is first in this list to become PM, it will be good that if a Bengali became PM, Jyoti Basu could not but Mamata Banerjee can, ” he said while extending birthday wishes to her on January 5.

“I pray for her good health and success in life “because the fate of our state depends on her success,” he added.
The statement came as the state BJP is engaged in the bitter fight against the Trinamool in the state over BJP’s rath yatra.

Providing a clarification on this statement, Ghose later said,” I was asked a question to which I replied that my wishes will be with her(Mamata Banerjee) if she becomes PM, that is only what I said. But there is no possibility at all of it happening. These things are to be taken in good humour. ”
