Naseeruddin Shah In Amnesty Video: Country awash with horrific hatred and cruelty

Days after triggering a controversy by raising concern over his children’s safety in India, veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah has now alleged that ”the country is awash with horrific hatred and cruelty”.

In a video released by Amnesty India on Friday, Shah is heard talking about how “artists, actors being stifled and journalists being silenced”.

His latest comments came in the form of a 2.14 minute video uploaded by the Amnesty India on its official twitter handle.

Shah says, “From the beginning, the Constitution’s core values aimed at ensuring social, economic and political justice for all Indian citizens. It provided for everyone to have liberty of thought, expression, faith and worship and for everyone to be treated equally.”

“In 2018, India witnessed a massive crackdown on freedom of expression and human rights defenders. Let’s stand up for our constitutional values this new year and tell the Indian government that its crackdown must end now,” tweeted Amnesty with the video starring Naseeruddin Shah, who had recently courted controversy with his views on the incidents of mob violence in the country.
