Simmba is a very regular story of a corrupt cop turning into a catastrophe for corrupt in typical Rohit Shetty’s boisterous style with extra zing aka Ranveer.
Simmba( Ranveer) is an orphan who has risen from the streets and has worked his way up to become a cop only to earn money and he has no scruples when it comes to that.
His conscience awakens when someone he regards as a sister gets raped by the very people he’s in connivance with.
The basic storyline that’s evident from the trailer is all there is to the plot.
But as expected, Ranveer has put in his entire might behind the character and literally, single-handedly carried the film on his shoulders.
His histrionics are so loveable, so entirely Ranveer-ish, it seems he just moulded the character in his signature style. With his Marathi diction and the twinkle in the eye, he gets away with anything.. till he starts breaking bones. And that’s where we started missing our original Singham.

Nobody can play the no-nonsense, bone breaking cop better than Ajay Devgun.
Of course, Rohit Shetty has added his typical flavours – a powerful villain (Sonu Sood), lots of action, comical policemen, humorous loud dialogues, a beautiful heroine with nothing much to do and some good songs.
Shetty as always ensures that there’s no dearth of entertainment. Good looking sets, claptrap dialogues, lots of humour. There wasn’t a dull moment. But there was no high either.
When he made Singham years ago, he might have not thought that he’s made a parameter that he’ll be always judged against, especially considering the fact this one is also a cop saga with the same setup.
The adrenaline rush we felt when Singham entered the scene, those super awesome legendary action scenes, that emotionally connect that made us clench our fists when he belted the baddies, that was all missing. The only time I actually clapped was when the original Singham made a grand appearance.
Performance wise, Ranveer is great as I mentioned above. Sara looks pretty and does her bit well.
Ashutosh Rana as Simmba’s junior puts in a decent and controlled performance. Sonu Sood as the baddie looks great.
The music track is overall mediocre. The only two good songs are remixes (Tere bin, Aankh Maare ).
The movie is definitely full paisa wasool. Action, dialogues and Ranveer are enough to carry you through.
I have always felt that comparisons ruin the movie experience. But couldn’t help doing it since Shetty himself intended to give us the Singham nostalgia.
Ironically, Simmba is aptly named. If Singham was the lion, Simmba is actually the loveable cub.
Good weekend watch for all. Shetty and Ranveer fans would be over the moon.
