Vikrant Massey to star opposite Deepika Padukone in this upcoming movie

Deepika is all set to play acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal in her next movie, which will also be her debut in the field of production. The movie, titled ‘Chhapaak’ will see Vikrant Massey starring opposite the actress.

Vikrant Massey started off his career as a television actor and was earlier seen in movies such as Lootera, Dil Dhadakne Do, Lipstick Under My Burkha, Half Girlfriendand and Amazon Prime’s Mirzapur. The actor has gradually been gaining popularity among the audiences as one the underrated actors of the film industry.

Deepika was last seen in Padmaavat after which she was supposed to play mafia queen alongside Irrfan Khan in Vishal Bhardwaj’s next which got postponed owing to Khan’s ill health. The actress recently got married to actor Ranveer Singh in a private ceremony at Villa del Balbianello, Lake Como in Italy.

Chhapaak will be directed by Meghna Gulzar, who had earlier directed the films Raazi and Talvar, and will be Padukone and Gulzar’s first movie together. Vikrant will reportedly play a North Indian boy who started a campaign against acid violence. The rest of the cast is yet to be announced.

Laxmi Agarwal, whose life the movie is based on, was attacked in 2005, when she was 15-years-old, by 32-years-old Guddu, whose advances she had rejected. She has since then been campaigning against acid attacks and speaks for the rights of acid attack victims. She later started a petition that led the Supreme Court to order the central and state governments to regulate the sale of acid. She also won an award for the US State Department’s International Women of Courage in 2014.
