Don’t believe these fake claims about this amphibious aircraft

Date:

A stunning video of an aircraft taking off from water is doing rounds on social media and WhatsApp.

The video claims that the plane is taking off with 300 passengers onboard. “Flight #787 of Royal Brunei Airlines B1081 carrying 300 passengers takes off on water from Jeddah ! Amazing video,” the caption read.

Fact check

The plane in the video is not Royal Brunei Airlines B1081 but Beriev Be-200 Multipurpose Amphibious Aircraft.

The video is of 2010 Hydro Air Show in Gelendzhik, Russia where a pair of Be-200 showcase their USP and take off and land on water.

Beriev Be-200 Altair has a capacity of 12,000 litres (3,170 US gallons) of water or up to 72 passengers. This proves that the plane is not carrying 300 passengers as stated in the viral message.
