BBC didn’t predict win for BJP in Rajasthan; don’t believe the FAKE opinion poll

Date:

While Rajasthan is all set for the assembly polls on December 7, an opinion poll is making rounds on Social Media and widely spread on WhatsApp attributed to British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC). The opinion poll claimed to be run by BBC predicts a win for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Rajasthan.

As per the viral message BJP will win 145 seats in Rajasthan assembly polls while Congress will get 50 seats out of 200 seats.

The viral message reads:

*Rajasthan opinion poll*

*> June-2018*
Congress 160+, BJP 30
*> July-2018*
Congress 150, BJP 40
*> August-2018*
Congress 135 BJP 50
*> October-2018*
Congress 125, BJP 65
*>1st November-2018*
Congress 105
BJP 90
*> 28th November-2018*
Congress 60
BJP 135

*If this will continue On 11 Dec we might see Congress 50, BJP 145*

*Narendra Modi has single-handedly rescued Rajasthan for the BJP from the jaws of defeat. No matter what level of anti-incumbency there is, he can beat it all just like he did in Gujarat. No amount of media and Cambridge Analytica propaganda can match the trust people have in him.*

FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile tried to verify the opinion poll we found out that the claims made were FAKE.

When we clicked on the link attached with the viral message it opened BBC’s official website’s homepage and after thoroughly scanning the website there was no trace of any such opinion poll on any BBC website or their official social media handles.

Meanwhile, BBC spokesperson also confirmed that the British news organisation did not carry such opinion poll. The spokesperson also added that BBC does not commission pre-election surveys in India.

“This fake survey on the Rajasthan polls has been circulating on WhatsApp and social media, with some messages claiming it to be from BBC News. We’d like to make absolutely clear that it is fake and does not come from the BBC. The BBC does not commission pre-election surveys in India,” the spokesperson quoted bt AltNews.

So beware and verify before believing any information.
