PSLV or Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle is the launch vehicle of the third generation in India. This is the first launch vehicle of India to be equipped with the liquid stages.
A launch vehicle is a vehicle powered by a rocket that is used to send artificial satellites or spacecrafts into the space. It is also called a carrier rocket. Polar satellite is a satellite that moves around the earth in the polar orbit. When the earth rotates around its axis, the satellite crosses different points of the earth’s surface to scan the complete earth.

The first successful launch of the PSLV took place in October 1994 after which it has emerged as a reliable and flexible launch vehicle of India. By June 2017, there were 39 consecutive successful missions in India. Within the period of 1994-2017, 48 Indian satellites and 209 satellites from abroad were launched by the PSLV.
Here are some facts about ISRO’s PSLV-C43/HysIS Mission:
- The PSLV launched HysIS in its 45th flight this morning called PSLV-C43 along with 30 co-passenger satellites from the First Launch Pad.
- The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle is a fourth stage launch vehicle with solid and liquid stages. C43 is the lightest version of PSLV.
- The HYsIS or Hyper Spectral Imaging Satellite is an earth observation satellite created by ISRO and the primary satellite of the PSLV-C43 mission.
- The weight of the spacecraft is approximately 380 kg.
- The mission life of the satellite in five years.
- The launch took place at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.
