Nifty, Sensex rise for the third straight day; Sensex ends at 35,716.95

The benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty50 advanced for third day on Wednesday. The 30-share Sensex ended 203.81 points up at 35,716.95, while the Nifty ended 43.25 points higher at 10,728.85 led by gains in heavyweight IT stocks Infosys and TCS.

In the 50-share Nifty index, 31 shares declined, while 19 scrips advanced. Yes Bank shares led losses on both indices and closed over 11% lower after Moody’s downgraded the bank’s ratings. Fourteen out of the 19 sectoral indices on BSE posted losses with telecom falling most at 2.8%. Realty, oil and gas, capital goods, industrials and metal declined between 1% to 1.9%

The investors are waiting for the key G20 and Opec meetings. Oil prices rose over 1% ahead of the OPEC meeting next week.

Indian rupee rose to 70.73 (intraday) against Tuesday’s close 70.78 per dollar.
