Farmers protest in Azad Maidan, Dadar, demanding land ownership

Date:

Thousands of farmers marched towards Azad Maidan in Dadar yesterday backing the Lok Sangharsh Morcha to appeal for their demands of farm land ownership and the implementation of Forest Rights Act.

Farmers from all over Maharashtra reached the Byculla Bridge in Mumbai on Thursday morning and started their march on Tuesday. A meeting has been scheduled between the farmers and Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis in the evening. The issue of load waiver is also expected to be discussed in the meeting.

According to ANI reports, Pratibha Shinde, the general secretary of the Lok Sangharsh Morcha said, “we will definitely meet the Chief Minister and put forward our demands. Only after the meeting, we will be able to decide whether the government and we are on the same page or not. In the last six months, the government has not even done two per cent of the works they promised to us.”

This is the third protest in a year in Maharashtra by farmers. In March this year, about 25,000 farmers got together and carried out a protest march under the banner of All India Kisan Sabha asking for a complete waiver of farm loan. Again in July this year, there was a protest by the dairy farmers demanding a hike in the milk prices.
