In the latest from Jammu and Kashmir, which has been under Governor’s rule ever since Mehbooba Mufti quit as CM in June, PDP has confirmed that it has held meetings with the National Conference and Congress, and they are set to join hands to form a government in the state.
According to reports three parties have held talks, and it is very much possible that in the next 24 hours they make stake claim to form the government. Further, it is also suggested that former CM of the state Omar Abdullah and his father Farooq Abdullah have declined CM’s post, hence, senior PDP leader Altaf Bukhari may well be announced as the CM face.
Speaking to media, PDP MLA Altaf Bukhari, the possible CM candidate for the alliance said:
“We have agreed to form an alliance. PDP, National Conference and Congress. What are the contours of the alliance, only leadership can say. Alliance has been agreed. There is a serious level of discussion which has taken place. There are some 60 MLAs with us. This alliance has been made for the identity of Kashmir and Kashmiris. It is not for any rule, but only for the protection of the special identity which we have. It is being done to respond to the aspirations of the people. Section 370 is under attack, 35A is under attack, and we have to respond. There is no front. We have around 60-61 MLAs which makes 2/3rd. Leaders of three parties have responded to the current situation. It will be announced very soon.”

Earlier this year in June, the PDP-BJP government ended after the latter decided to quit the alliance. It came in the wake of the central government’s decision to end the Ramzan ceasefire in the state, following the attacks by terrorists on security forces during that period.
Prior to that, there were huge cracks in the alliance following the Kathua rape case. PDP demanded action against the BJP leaders who were supposedly coming in support of those who committed the heinous crime.
