India is among the top four nations targeted by phishing attacks and is also among the top countries for hosting for such online frauds, second only to the US.
India stands fourth after Canada, US and Netherlands, which are the countries that are highly targeted for phishing attacks, according to a recent report by RSA Security, India among the top targets for phishing frauds.

The three key findings according to RSA Quarterly Fraud Report; Q3 2018 are-
1. Phishing volume increased by 70% from July 1 to September 30 this year.
2. RSA detected 9,329 rogue apps in Q3 which made up 25% of all frauds.
3. Mobile frauds increased 27% since 2017. However, attacks involving financial malware dropped from 16 % last quarter to 12 % in Q3.
According to media reports, RSA recovered nearly 5.5 million unique compromised credit cards in Q3, reflecting an 8% increase from the previous quarter.
Cyber crime is on the rise in India, with at least one cyber crime occurring every ten minutes in the first six months of 2017. The main reason is a surge in the number of connected devices. Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), said 27,482 27,482 cases of cyber crime were reported from January to June 2017. Cyber crime is any criminal activity that involves a computer, networked device or a network. The most common forms of cyber crime are-
– Piracy (intellectual property theft-illegal copying or reproduction of copyrighted materials)
– Identity theft (someone acquires another person’s digital identity)
– Cyber bullying (mainly harassing a person through online medias)
– Session hijacking (acquiring the active login sessions of browser with a single click to a link)
– Defacement of sites
– Malwares, randsomewares, social engineering.
