NCR continues to reel under ‘poor’ air quality

Date:

People in the national capital woke up to a hazy morning as the air quality in the NCR remained in the ‘poor’ category on Monday.

Though the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of Delhi improved to 272 from 326 the day before, thick smog continued to engulf the national capital and is expected to worsen in coming days, according to System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).

An AQI between 0-50 is considered good, 51-100 is satisfactory, 101-200 moderate, 201-300 poor, 301-400 very poor and 401-500 is marked as severe/hazardous.

The India Meteorological Department has advised people to restrict outdoor activities, especially those having breathing issues.

Apart from vehicular and industrial pollution practices like residue crop burning and use of bio-mass, such as cow-dung, wood and coal, also aid air pollution. With a large population relying on these practices, efforts to curb the menace of pollution need stringent measures.
