Sri Lanka’s political crisis takes an ugly turn; 1 dead, 2 injured in shooting

One person died while two were left injured in Sri Lanka after Bodyguards of former petroleum minister Arjuna Ranatunga opened fire on the mob.

Ranatunga was the petroleum minister under sacked PM Ranil Wickremesinghe before the cabinet was dissolved under the new government.

The supporter of newly appointed Sri Lankan PM Mahinda Rajapakse blocked Ranatunga route when he arrived at Ceylon Petroleum Corporation for a meeting.

According to the police, the arrested security personnel fired live bullets at the protestors.

This is the first report of violence following the sudden sacking of PM Ranil Wickremesinghe. Late on Friday night, the president of Sri Lanka, Maithripala Sirisena, sacked Wickremesinghe and the former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was sworn in instead.
