Chandigarh imposes a partial ban on fire crackers this Diwali

The Chandigarh administration has ordered a partial ban on firecrackers this Diwali by fixing hours for it. This is an attempt to curb noise and air pollution in the city.

The orders have been issued under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code by the District Magistrate Sachin Rana from September 26 to November 24. The residents will only be allowed to burst them for three hours on Dussehra, Diwali, and Gurupurab.

The timings fixed according to the three days are 5.00 PM to 8.00 PM on Dussehra on October 19, 6.30 PM to 9.30 PM on Diwali on November 7, and again 6.30 PM to 9.30 PM on Gurupurab.

Last year as well, the ban was imposed, however, there were some people who failed to obey the ban. This year those who fail to comply with the order will be penalised for disobedience to the order under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code. The punishment could also be imprisonment of up to two years with a fine of up to Rs. 1000.

The manufacturers have also been asked to mention the contents of the chemicals used to make the crackers on the box of each firecracker.
