Mercedes- Benz launched the new generation Mercedes-AMG G63 in Delhi on Friday. It carries a price tag of Rs 2.19 crore (ex- showroom).
The new G63 stays true to its squared-off foundations with a chiseled body and straight lines but adds subtle curves to it. It is longer, wider and taller with an increased ground clearance.
The new bodyshell, mounted on a high-strength ladder-type frame, comes with increased torsional rigidity via a new material mix yet the SUV is 65 kg lighter. With adaptive and adjustable damping, the AMG Ride Control suspension set-up makes it more capable off-road while it is dynamic and comfortable on the road.
The new AMG houses a 585 hp 4.0 litre V8 bi-turbo engine against the old 571 hp 5.5 V8. It produces a peak torque 850 Nm at 2500-3500 rpm and and power output 430 kW (585 hp) at 6000 rpm. Its acceleration has improved by 0.9 secs as it sprints from 0- 100 kmph in 4.5 seconds and can attain a top speed of 220 kmph.
The interiors of the car are taken straight out of the S -class. The rear seats are more luxurious and G63 sports a new steering wheel as well. It is mated to the AMG Speedshift TCT 9G transmission.
The G- class gets side exhaust pipes, flared wheel arches and 22-inch rims along with red brake callipers. It features the likes of the Panamericana grille that the German automaker uses on its high-end AMG models and a set of appealing circular daytime running lights. The headlamps and the tail lamps are now all-LED.
The new AMG G 63 is highly customisable with the ‘designo’ platform.
