These kids in Assam swim to school daily

Date:

Swimming and reaching school has become a routine for kids in the Dalgaon District in Assam due to the absence of a bridge.

The students studying in Kachomari Primary School swim or use banana stems to cross the river reached their school from their homes and vice versa. Students are too tiny and young are carried on their parents’ shoulders to cross the river.

Another hard-hitting fact about the school is that its compound remains flooded due to the lack of a proper drainage system.

A social worker, Sarwan Kumar Jha has narrated the plight of the students by stating that there is approximately 1 to 1.5 feet water of rain water that gets collected in the school and a 40-45 feet wide river needs to be crossed as there is no bridge.

He also said that this situation is the same from past four months. The district administration has been informed by the principal of the school about the situation, however, an action is yet to be taken.
