The cancellation was informed by Pakistan through a letter from the National School of Public Policy where the lecture was scheduled. The letter of cancellation came without any reason listed.

The decision of cancelling the lecture comes after India cancelled talks with Pakistan. Earlier in September, Imran Khan had written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi calling for a resumption of peace and for talks.

During the UNGA address, Sushma Swaraj denied the fact that India does not want to initiate communication with Pakistan and said that ‘talks with Pakistan have begun many times. However, the only thing the stopped India was Pakistan’s behaviour’.
