Fuel prices rise again; petrol at Rs 83.22 in Delhi, diesel at Rs 74.42

Date:

Petrol and diesel prices on Friday continued with their near-daily rising trend. In Delhi petrol increased by Rs 0.22 a litre to Rs 83.22 and diesel rose by Rs 0.18 a litre to Rs 74.42.

The rise in global crude oil prices have resulted in the hike in the fuel prices domestically. The prices of diesel and petrol have increased by more than Rs 5 per litre since mid-August, though the exact price rise varies in each state.

Petrol and diesel prices in Mumbai are Rs 90.57 per litre (increase by Rs 0.22) and Rs 79.01 per litre (increase by Rs 0.19), respectively.

The Brent crude price crossed $80 a barrel this week and touched $82.10 per barrel on Wednesday. Energy experts expect the Brent crude prices to touch $100 per barrel. Traders said oil markets were tightening ahead of the US’ planned sanctions on Iran’s petroleum industry from November, Reuters reported.

The increasing crude oil prices have pushed the oil import bills up for India and have adversely impacted the value of rupee against the dollar. According to PTI, the rupee stood at Rs 72.38 per dollar in the early trade on Thursday.
