Govt asks BSF to avenge Constable Narendra Kumar’s death

Date:

Reacting to the killing of BSF Head Constable Narendra Kumar along the International Border (IB) near Jammu by Pakistani troops, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has reportedly asked the Director General of Border Security Force, KK Sharma, to avenge the murder. In a high-level meeting on Thursday morning, Singh has reportedly given a free hand to the BSF.

This came hours after Imran Khan’s, Prime Minister of Pakistan’s, wrote to PM Modi asking for a meeting of the two foreign ministers on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.

The mutilated body of Narendra Kumar was found hours after unprovoked firing was initiated by Pakistan in Ramgarh sector of Jammu on the patrolling party. Kumar’s throat was slit, there were multiple bullet injuries on his torso, even on his neck, while his eyes were gouged out.

The brutality of the incident has forced the security forces into issuing a “high alert”  along the IB and LoC while the BSF has lodged a complaint with the Pakistan Rangers.  Kumar’s body had three bullet wounds.

“First Hemraj, and now Narendra Singh, has been tortured, tormented and murdered by Pakistan yesterday. Soldiers are the souls of our nation. Our nation’s soul was tortured for nine hours yesterday. Where is Modi ji today? Does it not shock your conscience Modi ji? Where is your 56-inch chest?” Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said while speaking to ANI.

Constable Kumar, who hails from Thana Kala village of Sonipat in Haryana, is survived by wife Santosh Devi and sons Mohit Kumar and Ankit Kumar. He joined the BSF back in 1990.

The last rites of the slain jawan were performed in Sonipat, Haryana. Speaking to the media, his son said while it was a matter of pride for us, we shouldn’t make a habit out of it. He said, “It’s a matter of pride for us, not everyone gets to be draped in the tricolour. But we just can’t keep feeling proud. We are proud today, someone gets killed tomorrow, we will be proud again. We demand action from the authorities.”

Last year, Pakistani forces had killed two Indian soldiers and mutilated their bodies after carrying out unprovoked rocket and mortar firing on two forward posts on the Line of Control in the Krishna Ghati sector. The deceased soldiers were identified as junior commissioned officer (JCO) Naib Subedar Paramjit Singh with the Army’s 22 Sikh Regiment and Head Constable Prem Sagar of the BSF’s 200 Battalion.

Earlier in January 2013, the Pakistani troops had beheaded the head of Lance Naik Hemraj in the same sector.
