UEFA Champions League kicks off today

The Union of European Football Association (UEFA) Champions League starts Tuesday with the opening matches scheduled between FC Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven in Barcelona and Inter Milan and Tottenham Hotspur in Milan.

Reigning champions Real Madrid, who have won the competition for three consecutive years, have been placed in Group G along with CSKA Moscow, Roma and Plzen. They are set to play Roma on Thursday as they open their campaign without Zinedine Zidane, who resigned as the club’s manager within a week of winning the Champions League title last season.

Last season’s runners up Liverpool have been placed in one of the toughest groups which includes PSG and Napoli. The Mohamed Salah led Reds will face French giants PSG later on Wednesday as they open their campaign with what promises to be a cracking game.

 

Liverpool’s Premier League rivals Tottenham too have been handed a stiff group, with Spanish giants Barcelona and Italian giants Inter Milan in the same group as them. The Harry Kane led Spurs will face Inter at the San Siro stadium in Italy later today.

Manchester United have also been handed a tough challenge in their group, with Italian champions Juventus and Spanish giants Valencia have been pitted alongside them. The Red Devils face Swiss side Young Boys on the Thursday in their opener,a relatively easier game.

The UEFA Europa League is set to kick off on Thursday.
