Gold tiffin box, spoon studded with rubies, other artefacts stolen from Nizam’s Museum

Hyderabad: Burglars broke into the Nizam’s Museum located in Hyderabad on Sunday night and stole a gold tiffin box weighing two kilograms, a cup, saucer, and spoon studded with rubies, diamonds and emeralds, the police said on Monday.

The CCTV footage was seen and the investigation is underway. Hyderabad Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar and other senior officers visited the museum. A police officer, also said that they were investigating the role of insiders in the theft.

The cup, saucer and spoons belonged to the family of the Nizams. The museum is located in the Purani Haveli. The museum showcases many other properties that belonged to the Nizam’s and the gifts received by Mir Osman Ali Khan, sixth and the last Nizam from 1911 to 1948 when Hyderabad State was annexed by India.
