More rain showers expected in Delhi; flood alert in North-East

Since Sunday, Delhi witnessed waterlogging due to the heavy rain showers in the city and on many roads, standstill traffic was seen. According to the meteorological department, intermittent rain showers are expected today as well in the day, including a spell or two of heavy rain showers possibly of a lower intensity than Sunday.

The heaviest rain spells were seen at Safdarjung followed by Lodhi Road and Ridge Road and Palam between 8.30 am to 5.30 pm on Sunday.

In fact, the heaviest rain shower was recorded at 93.8 mm which was the heaviest comparing the September days so far.

Delhi was hit by monsoon on June 28 this year and the intensity ranged from light to heavy rain showers.

According to the Delhi Traffic Police, about 33 areas of Delhi received heavy rainfall and the roads remained waterlogged since Sunday morning including Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg, Dilshad Garden, Punjabi Bagh, Munirka, Lajpat Nagar, and Qutub Road.

The resulting temperature owing to the two-day heavy rain showers saw a dip and was recorded at 28 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 26 degrees Celsius.

According to the latest reports, North-East may witness heavy floods owing to the heavy rain showers. While Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are on high alert, in Meghalaya the disaster management teams are on standby.
