13-year-old helps Kerala flood victims through Mumbai Dabbawalas

A 13-year old student wanted to help the Kerala flood victims and decided to donate some money to them. Tilak Mehta, is also an entrepreneur who runs a venture called ‘Papers and Parcels’ and so far shipped 1,000 kg of rice and 500 first-aid kits to the flood-hit region with help from Mumbai’s dabbawallas.

Later this month, decided to tie up with the biggest union Mumbai Dabbawalas, with 200 dabbas. “We appealed to people to donate rice and contribute for first-aid kits. In less than a week, we collected a good amount and successfully dispatched it to Kerala,” Mehta said.

The first aid kits prepared by Mehta consisted of medicines for the victims. His company also decided to donate 20% of their earning to the CM relief fund of Kerala.

Subhash Talekar, spokesperson, Mumbai Jevandabbe Vahatuk Sanghatana said, “We are happy that with the efforts of Mehta and his company and the dabbawalas, we were able to help the flood victims.”
