The longtime Bond fan, Boyle, had set his eyes on directing the movie way back in March. He had also previously used the James Bond script as an inspiration for his own film, T2 Trainspotting.

This news comes shortly after rumors about who the next James Bond will be. Daniel Craig, who has played the role for 12 years, has decided to move on to other projects. Bond 25, which is the working title for the 25th installment of the movie, will be Craig’s last appearance as the heroic British spy.

Production of the next James Bond film is set to begin in December this year. It is scheduled to hit cinemas in the US on Nov 8, 2019 and the UK on Oct. 25, 2019.

Craig has been one of the most successful actors for the franchise, earning a franchise best of $1.1 billion with 2012’s Skyfall’s and $880 million with 2015’s Spectre. Several actors such as Henry Cavill, Idris Elba, and Tom Hardy are in the running to become the next Bond. Whoever the studio chooses to take on the role, will surely have very big boots to fill.
