Regional news channel broadcasted a video that showed group of young people beating Sanjay Kumar, the professor, out of his Azad Nagar residence in Motihari town, stripping, thrashing and dragging him.

Superintendent of Police, East Champaran, Upendra Kumar Sharma, said Kumar in a complaint mentioned about a social media post which has since been reportedly deleted.

According to the reports, the professor had put the Facebook post questioning Vajpayee’s political ideology. He expressed apprehension that “campus rivalry” could be the reason behind the attack on him, as he had been “speaking against a number of influential faculty members and the university administration”. A thorough investigation would clear the picture. At present, we are trying to identify the attackers and arrest them, Sharma said.
