Sleepover at the Great Wall of China? A reality no more!

Date:

Update: In what seemed the perfect idea for a historical holiday, Airbnb has now scrapped the thought itself.

NewsMobile had reported a few days back about the innovative contest which would have given the winners a chance to book an Airbnb night atop the Great Wall of China, in a unique stay option. With traditional Chinese cuisine, music and a personalized tour of the Great Wall the next morning, this would have, indeed, been an experience of a lifetime.

However, following social media backlash from local Chinese authorities, environmentalists and Chinese conservationists, the competition has now been withdrawn.

Airbnb has cancelled its sleepover idea! Concerns were raised about the potential damage to the 2,600-year-old landmark, following which Airbnb decided to cancel the contest. ‘We deeply respect the feedback we have received. We have made the decision not to move forward with this event,’ Airbnb said in a statement. The company has apologised to those who had already entered the contest and said that they ‘will be in touch in the future about other ways you can explore and discover amazing experiences in China.’
