Yet another WhatsApp forward with a seemingly authentic claim is here to fool the users and extract personal information. The latest forward claims that the government is giving a cheque Rs 10,000 to girls between 1-18 years under its Sukanya Samriddhi (Girl Child Prosperity) scheme. The link to claim the cheque is attached to the message.
The message read:
(Translation: “Cheque worth Rs 10,000 have been given away by the Prime Minister to girls between the age of 1 to 18 to secure their future. August 15th is the last date to avail the scheme. Share this message among your friends so that everyone can be benefitted by the scheme”)
The link opens in the browser with asks for the Name and Age of the girl and Name of the Applicant.
When we gave Name of the girl as ‘A’ and Name of the Applicant as ‘B’, it proceeded to a page which had two options- 1. To Share it on WhatsApp, 2. Get Registration Number.

On tapping on the second option to get the Registration Number- a pop-up came asking to share it among 10 Friends/Groups on WhatsApp.
The above claim is Fake as there is no official confirmation from the government about giving a cheque of Rs 10,000 to girls between 1 -18 years.
Moreover, no government platform insists that users share the message with others on WhatsApp.
Sukanya Samriddhi Account is a government-backed saving scheme for the benefit of the girl children. The scheme encourages parents to build a fund for education and marriage expenses of their female child.
The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January 2015 as a part of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign. The scheme currently provides an interest rate of 8.1% and tax benefits. The account can be opened at any India Post office or branch of authorised commercial banks.
