Kohli got to his hundred off 172 deliveries, his knock at that point was studded with 14 boundaries. This was his 15th Test century as captain and 22nd overall. In the process, he also completed 7000 International runs as captain when he reached 42 with a boundary against Stuart Broad. With that, Kohli became the fastest to reach the milestone taking only 124 innings and 105 matches. England will be left to rue their missed chances as they dropped two catches and allowed India’s last two wickets to add 92. Virat Kohli was the last man to be dismissed, ended with 149 off 255 deliveries, bringing an end to India’s innings at 274/10.

Trailing by 13 runs, openers Alastair Cook and Keaton Jennings resumed play on Day 2 with just 15 minutes of game time left. However, Cook’s dismissal in the third over through a fine Ravinchandran Ashwin delivery, meant that game was evenly poised going into Day 3.
