Can kids really comprehend the social media T&Cs?

Date:

Kids might be downloading or registering on social media websites and applications with terms and conditions that only teenagers and adults can comprehend.

However, it is clearly mentioned that sites and apps such as YouTube and Facebook can only be accessed by children above 13 years of age.

Besides complicated language, understanding and reading the terms and conditions of nearly fifteen famous websites takes a lot of time for kids.

Though some companies use European rules, many of them stated that they were striving to improve the readability of the legal documents by using easy language.

While using websites like Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram, the users are required to agree to the terms and conditions while creating their accounts and are bound by a privacy policy too.

It was observed that more than 8 in 10 children below the age of 13 years used YouTube and Facebook in a study despite of the condition that all the social networking sites like Snapchat, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, Reddit, and Apple can be used by people above 13 years of age.

Apart from the language, the terms and conditions are also really long and take almost one hour to read the whole thing.
