FIFA WC18: Brazil, Switzerland win Group E matches, move to round of 16

Brazil and Switzerland won their respective matches in Group E of the FIFA 2018 on Wednesday to move ahead for the round of 16. Brazil will now face Mexico in the knock-out stage and Switzerland will play against Sweden. Serbia and Costa Rica were at the bottom of the group and will go home.

 

Brazil wins against Serbia (2-0)

Brazil scored a goal in each half secure top spot in Group E. Goals by Paulinho and Thiago Silva steered Brazil to a victory.

Paulinho put Brazil ahead with a superb dinked finish on 36 minutes before Neymar swung in a cross for Thiago Silva to header the Selecao’s second goal with 22 minutes left in Moscow.

 

Switzerland vs Costa Rica ends in a 2-2 draw

Switzerland just about managed to move up in Group E to move to knock out stage. Their match against Costa Rica ended in a 2-2 draw. Costa Rica started the game brilliantly and drew at least three good saves from Switzerland’s Yann Sommer within the first 10 minutes. This also included a sixth-minute brilliant double-save. Switzerland had their goal in the 31st minute as Dzemaili scored after Lichtsteiner put in a cross the right and Embolo headed it down into the path of Dzemaili, who slammed it into the net. The Swiss controlled the game from that moment on.

Kendall Waston scored in the 56th minute to draw Costa Rica levels with Switzerland. Switzerland managed to get ahead the second time in the match in the 88th minute when Zakaria played a low ball into the box. However in the injury time an own goal by Switzerland made the score even .
