Top takeaways from PM Modi’s interaction with beneficiaries of social schemes

Social schemes help people fight and win over the uncertainties of life, especially economically backward classes, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his interaction with the beneficiaries of social schemes. The aim of the government is to provide life and accident insurance cover to the marginalised sections of the society. More than 20 crore people have been insured in the last four years, he said.

  • World Bank’s Fintech report has said that Jan Dhan is a successful programme where 28 crore new accounts have been opened from 2014 till date. This is 55% of the total accounts opened in the world.

  • No of people who have bank accounts has increased from 52% in 2014 to over 80% to date
  • For Social security – life cover and Ru Pay card has been provided
  • Two insurance and one pension scheme has been started
  • In 2014 only 4.80 crore subscribers of insurance, today it is 50 crore
  • Under Pradhan Mantri Jivan Jyoti Bima Yojna an annual premium of Rs 330 gives a life cover of Rs 2 lakh
  • About 5 crore people have benefited from this
  • Under Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Beema Yojan accident cover can be availed. For an annual premium of Rs 12 a cover of Rs 2 lakh is provided. About 13-14 crore people have taken this cover.
  • Savings made by people over 60 years get a assured return of 8%
  • Senior citizens get tax incentives.
  • Jan Aushadhi Yojna has also been provided

He spoke to the beneficiaries of the scheme from people in Raipur, Chhattisgarh followed by Ganjam in Orissa, Mahabubnagar in Telangana, Sirmaur in Himachal Pradesh, Sirsa and Panipat in Haryana, west Tripura and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala and Hoshangabad in Madhya Pradesh.
