Young Parsi couples to be paid to take care of their parents

Date:

A monetary relief is set to be given to the Parsi couples under the Jiyo Parsi scheme in which the couples would be paid to take care of their family members. The dependents could include children, elderlies and extended family members.

Jiyo Parsi is a government-funded scheme and is supported by UNESCO’s PARZOR Foundation and Bombay Parsi Punchayet exclusively roping in senior citizens and kids up to the age of ten years.

The purpose of this scheme is to encourage couples to extend and grow their families by having more than one child. However, there are certain criteria and conditions to keep in mind before applying for this scheme.

The selection of this scheme will be on the basis of personal interviews and the type of supports parents can give to the children. There will be a panel to shortlist applications by August 2018. Personal details of the representatives will be further verified by a Punchayet representative.

As per the current scenario, the Zoroastrian population in India is on the decline and 35 percent of the current population falls in the age group of above 60 years. At this rate and pace, in about 20 years from now, there will be very few Parsis left.
