Avoid hairstyles that make you look older than your age; tips that help

Date:

It’s all about styling these days! The dress you wear, the colour, the material, the shoes – everything adds to the entire personality that you exude. The hair, naturally, is an important part of this set up too. Most times, people ignore the hair and this itself can be detrimental to the way you look.

Some haircuts and stylings can make you look younger than your age whilst some create just the opposite look. Do you know that sometimes the way you style your hair can make you look older?  Here are a few common hair mistakes that can make you look older.

Middle parting –

Changing your hair parting once a while helps avoid bald spots. However, a center parting can add years to your age? Instead, try a side parting or a deep side parting for open hairdos.

As you age, gravity’s effect can draw the face down and a center parting always draws attention.

Instead part your hair a little further down the side of the hairline.

Straightened hair

A lot of times, we end up straightening our hair too much. A little bit of volume on the top or waves and curls at the ends, can make the look more adventurous.

Super sleek ponytail

When it comes to sporting a ponytail, avoid a very high and tight ponytail. Instead, go for a loose ponytail which is carelessly made and looks effortless. Avoid centre parting ponytails.

High buns

When it comes to top knots, a tight one can make you look older just like the ponytail. Go for a loose one or try a braided top knot.

Super Stiff Hair

Stiff, unmovable hair looks staid and unnatural.Keep your hair’s natural movement and bounce by limiting hairspray use. Avoid formulas labelled with strong, firm or ultra, get a gentler effect with light and flexible hold hairsprays

French Twist

This classic style can look very matronly if it’s too slicked back and severe. Make it by giving your hair some texture before pulling it back, whether you’re twisting it or not. It gives a far more relaxed look.

Ringlets

Making naturally curly hair flatter your face at any age is all about the right product. Instead of using a hard-hold mousse, try a curl cream. This simple routine will give your curls the bounce you want but with a softer hold.

Curled-Under Ends

It makes your face look wider and larger. As women age, the bottom portion of the face becomes fuller, the temples and cheekbones recede and the tip of the nose slopes downward, thanks to a combo of gravity and a lack of skin elasticity.

Instead use a round brush to lift roots at the crown as you blow dry, but don’t brush through to the ends to avoid the unflattering curled-under effect.
