Mann ki Baat: PM lauds CWG 2018 winners, talks of water conservation

Today the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi shared the 43rd episode of his heart-to-heart with the people of Inida in Mann ki Baat. Here are the highlights,

  • Commonwealth Games 2018: PM Modi congratulated Indian sportspersons for their record performance at the Commonwealth Games 2018. “Our players did their best by fulfilling the expectations of the country and won medal after medal,” he said.
    With 26 Gold medals and a tally of 66 medals, India finished third in the Commonwealth Games this year. “After the match ends, when the medal is presented to an Indian athlete, the Tricolour is raised, and the national anthem begins to play, at that time the feeling of satisfaction, joy and pride is something special,” Modi said.
    Commending female athletes on their stellar performance at the CWG, he said: “Our women athletes have done India proud.”
  • Fit India Movement: Modi emphasised on preventive healthcare awareness and talked about the Fit India movement. “Last month I urged people to take part in the Fit India movement. I am glad that they did so with overwhelming support for the movement,” he said.
  • Yoga Day: The Prime Minister also enumerated the benefits of Yoga and mentioned the 3D-animated video of himself depicting the ‘Trikonasana’ posture. “Yoga is a wonderful way to remain fit. Let us think about ways to make the fourth Yoga Day memorable,” he said.
  • Swachh Bharat Summer Internship: PM Modi invited college-going students, NCC cadets, NSS jawans and other youngsters to participate in the Centre’s newly-launched Swachh Bharat Summer internship program. “This is an opportunity for those young people who wish to contribute to the country, bring about a change in society and learn something in the process,” he said.
  • Water Conservation: After speaking about sanitation and cleanliness, PM Modi went on to stress the need for conserving water. “Conservation of water is in the blood of the Indians. For centuries, our ancestors have shown this in their way of life. They gave importance to every single drop of water,” he said.
    “Conservation of water should be a social responsibility, every person should be contribute in it. Let us work towards water conservation,” he urged.
  • Ramzan: In a few days the holy month of Ramzan will begin. The month of Ramzan is celebrated with full reverence and respect throughout the world, the Prime Minister said. Ahead of this holy month, PM Modi spoke of Prophet Muhammad. “Prophet Mohammad sahib believed in knowledge and compassion. He did not have an ego. He used to say that ego only defeats knowledge. He believed that if you have anything more than your requirement, you should give it to a needy person, therefore the spirit of giving is important in Ramzan,” Modi said.
  • Buddha Purnima: PM Modi also paid tributes to Lord Buddha ahead of Buddha Purnima. “Lord Buddha inspires equality, peace, empathy and brotherhood, and inculcating these values is increasingly essential in the world today, ” he said.
