Japan may have a mayor, who is a robot powered by artificial intelligence, soon. The robot who goes by the name Michihito Matsuda is campaigning in Tama city of Tokyo area. The robot’s slogan is “artificial Intelligence will change Tama city”.
According to local reports the AI bot is offering “fair and balanced opportunities for everyone” and will compete with high-profile local politicians.

As mayor it would analyse petitions and break down the pros and cons before being put forward to council representatives.
Matsuda said: “Tama New Town was the most advanced city in Japan 40 years ago. As it stands, the ageing population will only continue to grow, prompting a need for change in the current administration. Let artificial intelligence determine policies by gathering city data and we can create clearly defined politics,” according to reports.

The campaign is being funded by Tetsuo Matsumoto, vice president of software provider SoftBank, and former Google Japan employee Norio Murakami.
