The Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley, who was re-elected from Rajya Sabha (RS), took oath of office today. The minister could not take oath of office earlier because he was unwell and had been working from home due to a severe kidney ailment. The ceremony took place at the RS Chairman, Venkaiah Naidu‘s chamber in the Parliament.
The Finance Minister had contested from Uttar Pradesh. Eight more Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders were also victorious in the RS polls from the state. They are, GVL Narasimha Rao, Harnath Yadav, Ashok Bajpai, Vijay Pal Singh Tomar, Kanta Kardam, Sakaldeep Rajbhar and Anil Aggarwal.

The voting for 25 Rajya Sabha seats was held across six states including, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Telangana.
A total number of 59 vacancies were created in the Rajya Sabha in April which necessitated the election process.
