The third case lodged is related to the alleged attack on the teenager’s father on April 3 by the MLA’s brother. The father later died on April 9 during treatment while in judicial custody.
As criticism mounted against the state government over the case, chief minister Yogi Adityanath said in Kanpur that his government had not deviated from its zero-tolerance policy on crime and will firmly deal with criminals, no matter how influential they might be.
“The law is one for all, and the punishment for a crime too will be the same for all, irrespective of who the offender is,” he said Chief minister Yogi Adityanath after being criticised.
PM Narenda Modi earlier today spoke out the horrific rape incidents in Unnao and Kathua and assured justice to the victims. “It is shameful, we are shamed as a nation, I want to assure the country those daughters will get justice”, he said.
The CBI swung into action on Thursday after the state government’s recommended a federal probe. The court will monitor the investigation and asked the CBI to file a status report on May 2, which is the next date of hearing.
